Assignment #1

"It seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world." - Albert Knox

Albert knox thinks that in the process of people getting older they lose the ability to wonder about the world. I don't really agree with this statement. Partly because I don't think people will stop wondering when they get older, cause everyone thinks and wonder what happens during their life. If they really did stop wondering then life would be boring everyday, but of course while you get older you will ask least question cause you get educated and gain more knowledge. During that period you will also find the answer of how the world was created. You would have to believe in what you have heard. Since you don't even know if the answer that your teacher gave you was the real reason or what it was made up in the pass. But you made to believe it since you were taught that way and no one has made a comment on it. It might also be while you get older you will stop exploring the world cause u think you know a lot from education.

So I don’t fully disagree with his statement. In my opinion people still wonder, while they get older and when new technology is invented they will wonder how things work. I also think that Albert Knox is partly thinking of some grown ups point of view or maybe just himself and not everyone. What I think is that grown ups now a days wonder everyday, and they wouldn’t stop wondering until they die.

I disagree with your view point because i think that there are SO many people in this world who doesn't think NOR wonder. Think about those who just work in a routine, sit in front of a television eating chips and drinking coke etc. If they'd ever wondered about what they were doing and what was going to happen to them, don't you think they would have made a change to how they are living their life, and tried to 'live life to the fullest'?

Agreeing with Claudia, I'm not so sure if I agree with you. Not only about what she pointed out, but also because of a few other reasons.

If you stop thinking and wondering, does it really make life less boring? Many people concentrate on working every single day, I'm not sure they have time to think and wonder about their life or rather, "why we are here". Also, it can be true that we ask less questions and stop wondering as much when we grow older because we gain more knowledge and through education, BUT have you learnt how the world was created? I'm not sure I have. Sure, in year 9 RS, we discussed about the Big Bang theory and much more, but do we really believe it? Wouldn't we think, things can't just happen? In the book, it says how God created everything, but Sophie wonders how God was created. We were never really answered questions on these. Most of the questions such as "Where do we come from" or "Why are we here" are often unanswered. It seems to me that near the end of your first paragraph, you strongly suggest that people believe everything they hear, which I'm quite confused about. So I'm not sure what you mean, or if that's a valid point to make.

I agree that people still wonder, and that they don't lose the ability to wonder but I don't agree with you that people continue to think continuously and wonder till they die. It is true that infants do wonder a lot more than adults, because they are curious about a lot of things. However, they don't think and wonder 24/7. It is usually when they begin to get older as they begin to have more time and be less attached to the daily routines. I think it is that people don't open their minds but if they do, then I'm sure that everyone can wonder as much as infants do.

You said "but of course while you get older you will ask least question cause you get educated and gain more knowledge. During that period you will also find the answer of how the world was created". I don't quite agree with you because i don't think we will ever have the answer of how the world was created. Things that you were taught in class about how the world was created are just therioes, with no evidence. However i do agree with the fact that we will ask less questions because we are more educated.
