This quote "it seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world" I agree with the point and disagree about the losing ability to wonder bit. This is because I think the same way as Albert Knox, as when people grow up they stop wondering less because when people start to get older (ageing), they will wonder less as they understand more and more, so they have no point in wondering things when they understand. Also they will think what's the point of wondering it, e.g how is people created? When there is no definite answer to it. This is why when people are young they wonder as they don't have that much knowledge. Most parents, who have their children asking them the why questions, which they cannot answer they will simply just say 'you will understand when you are older'. Little kids wonders about all sort of things because they want to know them, that's why kids play with fire to know what is fire, they are fascinate by it, but getting older there are much better things to do like doing sports, playing games or even studying. People will be so occupied with their leisure, work etc they slowly stop wondering when they know they will waste so much time but still get no exact answer, so what's the point in finding one when there is none? When people are small they got plenty of time, nothing much to do, that is why they don't need to care about something or think that deeply, they just sleep, eat and play- a very simple time in life. I don't agree with losing the ability to wonder about the world because people don't, they just don't wonder about the world a lot of their times unlike when their small. Growing older just make them wonder about the world lesser not completely losing the ability to wonder. At the end of their life span they'll certainly wonder about the world again because they will think where they go after death? Will they remember what happened? So we haven't lost the ability to wonder when we start ageing, it is the social issue- the environment is the one affecting us. The environment force us to stop thinking, so we slowly stop wondering but we still know what is wondering and how it is always good to wonder away in the darkness in our brain. I believe that when every we, humans sleep we wonder no matter how old we are we still do it every single day when we sleep, so we never lose the ability to wonder.
This is shown on page 25, it shows that people wonder why there is no rain 'Could it be that the giants had stolen Thor's hammer?' This is what they thought, but is this the actually reason? Also they would wonder who Thor is, what does he do? How come he/she has a hammer? And so on. These questions will never have a definite answer. So when people aged they start wondering less, they know better to waste time on something they will never have a true understanding in, this is because they are less creative or should we say no longer naive, they don't have that much free time to think or research something, which cannot stop. So this is why I agree with what Albert Knox is trying to say but disagree when he say that 'we lose the ability to wonder about the world as we age', we will only wonder less that's all.
