you can never lose "the ability to wonder about the world"

I don't think it's possible to lose something like "the ability to wonder about the world". We may cease questioning and exclaiming at everything that we see but that does not mean we do not wonder. We just become so used to the world and everything in it that we can't be bothered to think about it anymore, at least not deeply enough.

We do not lose "the ability to wonder about the world" becuase it is not something that we can lose. Humans were born curious, and always will be. We all have the need to know stuff. Because, admit it, it always feels good when you're the only one who knows something others don't. Be it gossip, or a science equation or whatever we all love it when we know stuff. It makes us feel good about ourselves. So how do we find out about the stuff we want to know about? We ask questions. And what with all the questions that we ask, it is inevitable that at some point in our lives we would ask one of those age old, unanswerable questions. Why are we here? Who am I? What is my purpose in life? I, personally do not believe that ANYBODY can go through life without asking themselves ONE of those questions. So, in that sense i dont agree with Albert Knox that "it seems as if in the process of growing up we lose the ability to wonder about the world." Becuase surely, it is with maturity that these questions will have a even strongern pull towards us to be answered, does it not?

It may appear that a lot of people dont think about these questions, but I think that in reality it's just that these questions are pushed to the back of the mind as we come to "accept the world as a matter of course". Because we all know that these questions CAN NOT be ANSWERED, so what is the point in continuously pursuing a question that can't be answered? People already have enough to think about without having to think about, they dont need to be given more problems, particulary problems with no solutions. That only results in headaches and depression. Sometimes, it can also seem as if people aren't amazed by the world and all its wonders anymore. I suppose, on some levels, that's true. But, for a lot of people they can't afford to look or act amazed all the time becuase it could come at a cost to them, for example, humiliation. So they try to be less amazed by the world until they gradually slip into the habit of not being amazed at all. But still, all the questions and amazement are at the back of their minds, covered up by more...prominent tasks and questions.

In the end, I dont think we can ever lose our wonder of the world. Afterall, don't we all think about where we're going to go on our death beds?

Good point brought up. Do we really get used to world so much that we don't think about it anymore? You have said we are curious, so don't we just want to know more about the world?

What do you think is your purpose of life? Is it just to enjoy it? Do you want to be successful or just be happy? For me, it's all of above. Enjoy, Be happy and Succeed.
